E-RIHS ERIC achieves ESFRI Landmarks status for Roadmap 2026

On October 23rd, 2026, the 97th ESFRI (European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) Plenary Meeting decision was publicly announced: E-RIHS ERIC successfully completed the assessment for ESFRI Landmark status for Roadmap 2026, marking its transition from preparation to implementation.

E-RIHS ERIC entered the ESFRI Roadmap as Projects in 2016, and it will feature as a new Landmark in Roadmap 2026, which emphasises the scientific excellence, implementation maturity, financial sustainability, environmental responsibility and European added value. E-RIHS progression demonstrates how sustained European cooperation builds research capabilities across cultural heritage.

“Landmark status is a recognition, and a responsibility. Cultural heritage belongs to everyone, and so does access to the science that serves it, across Europe and beyond. This result belongs to the community.” said Vania Virgili, E-RIHS Director General.

“I’d like to thank our 13 Member States and ICCROM, our permanent observer, our National Nodes and facilities, our governance bodies, the Central Hub team in Florence, and the users who trust our services and help us improve them. Last but not least, I also thank ESFRI for a rigorous monitoring process, which encouraged us to look back at what we have built and ahead to what comes next.”

E-RIHS ERIC is not the only infrastructure that deserved this recognition: three other infrastructures, DANUBIUS ERIC, EST and KM3NeT 2.0, entered the ESFRI Roadmap 2026 too.

ESFRI Roadmap 2026 launch is planned for December 2nd in Rome. It is possible to attend the event by subscribing here.
