The C2RMF is seeking a Paint Research Engineer to work at the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France.
Deadline to apply: November 18, 2023.
The C2RMF is a nationally competent service of the Directorate General for Heritage and Architecture – Service des musées de France, created by decree of December 16, 1998. It produces and preserves documentation on materials, techniques and the restoration of museum works.
The candidate will join the Painting group of the C2RMF research department and work on the materiality of paintings.
The person will be interested in the physical-chemical characterisation of painting material (research of provenance, study of painting techniques, study of artistic centres), in understanding alteration phenomena (reactivity and transformation of paintings), or even in conservation–restoration issues (evaluation of materials or intervention processes).
He/She will have the dual task of providing assistance to French museums and coordinating research programmes in painting. Eventually, he/she will be able to be part of a CNRS unit.
