The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (Egypt) are organizing the international conference “Connecting Heritage Science to the Heritage of Science” in collaboration with leading national and international institutions. The conference will take place at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center from 6–9 April 2025.
This event is co-organized by the Academic Research Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the National Network of Science Museums and Centers (Sci-Her) at Ain Shams University, in collaboration with the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS), the Alliance for Research on Cultural Heritage in Europe (ARCHE), the European Cloud for Heritage OpEn Science (ECHOES), the Slovenian Node of the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS.si), the Slovenian-Egyptian Heritage Science Platform (SloveNile), Université Senghor, and the UNESCO Chair for Science and Technology for Cultural Heritage at Cairo University and Qalam for Knowledge Production.
The conference will provide an opportunity for national, Arab, and African institutions concerned with cultural heritage to collaborate with their counterparts through major EU research initiatives and heritage science infrastructures. The aim is to enhance dialogue in cultural heritage preservation and research while building a sustainable strategic partnership in the field of heritage sciences. In the conference, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (Egypt) and the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS) as a step forward for the establishment of the Egyptian Node of the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (E-RIHS Egypt).
Additionally, the conference will explore the history and heritage of science in Egyptian civilizations from prehistoric times to the modern era. It will also highlight the role of research infrastructures and scientific innovations in cultural heritage management and preservation, emphasizing national, regional, and international cooperation in heritage sustainability.

Several international heritage institutions, including ICCROM and ICESCO, have been invited, along with distinguished Egyptian and international scholars, such as: Prof. Dr. Okasha El-Daly, Institute of Archaeology, University College London, UK, Prof. Dr. Stephen Quirke, Institute of Archaeology, University College London, UK, Prof. Dr. Fayzah Haikal, Professor of Heritage, The American University in Cairo, Egypt, Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty, Former Minister of Antiquities, Egypt, Prof. Dr. Albrecht Fuess, Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies, Philipps University Marburg, Germany.
The conference will feature approximately 40 presentations covering various aspects of heritage science, focusing on historical connections and scientific advancements in cultural heritage study and conservation.
Alongside the conference, a specialized workshop for archival heritage conservators will be organized by the Manuscripts Museum and Center (Cultural Outreach Sector, Bibliotheca Alexandrina), in collaboration with E-RIHS.si, Sci-Her (Ain Shams University), and SloveNile.
