The inauguration of E-RIHS.pl, the Polish node of the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science (ERIHS-ERIC) and of the project funded by the European Funds for a Modern Economy (FENG) took place on 17 September at the Institute of Physics of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (NCU). “Bringing together science and cultural heritage is more than just our motto, it is our programme,” emphasised Vania Virgili, Director-General of the consortium.

“The Polish node ERIHS.pl, plays an important role in the consortium,” said Associate Professor Adam Kola, Vice-Rector for Research at NCU, during the inauguration. “It is of great significance for Polish museums, conservators, and curators. As its leader, we are proud to be part of this European initiative and to support the development of heritage science.”

Also present at the event at the Institute of Physics were: Izabela Najda-Jędrzejewska, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation and Development at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland; Dr Vania Virgili, Director-General of ERIHS-ERIC; Dr Polona Ropret, Chair of the ERIHS-ERIC National Nodes Committee; and Professor Piotr Targowski of the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics at NCU, Chair of the ERIHS.pl Council, who outlined for those gathered the composition and tasks of the Polish node and emphasised: “Science and cultural heritage cannot exist without each other. Our research methods and tools ultimately serve one goal – the protection of heritage for society.”

The meeting inaugurated a two-day workshop devoted to presenting the research offer of ERIHS.pl, during which the consortium’s research methods, results of projects to date, and details of the new call for access applications were discussed.

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is the coordinator of the ERIHS.pl consortium, with delegates to the Consortium Council Professor Piotr Targowski (Chair) and Professor Bogumiła J. Rouba.
