Current Topics in Heritage Science – 02 | AI in the Loop

The 2nd Lecture of the Current Topics in Heritage Science series will be held on November 30th, 2023 at 3 pm.

Dr Dante Abate, researcher at the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence, in Cyprus, will drive us on the discovery of AI in the Loop: Enhancing Cultural Property Protection Activities through Intelligent Methods.

The illicit trafficking of cultural property or other harmful actions such as illegal archaeologic excavations are actual issues for a sustainable future of the Cultural heritage and are part of the UN’s SDG – 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

In the 2nd lecture, we will speak with Dr Dante Abate about the opportunity and the challenge of the new AI-driven tools

Focused on the “AI in the loop”, we’ll explore how the new approaches boost efforts to safeguard cultural properties, and how the use and smart processing of data collected from satellites, drones, and other airborne sources to surveil sites where pillage or plundering is ongoing, AI tools can represent an opportunity to contrast these threats.

Furthermore, we will talk about the role of web in the illicit traffic and in the tracking of illegal transactions. We will seek to understand how Artificial intelligence-based methods can be an alternative positive instrument to the safety and preservation of priceless cultural assets for future generations.

Current Topics in Heritage Science series are organized by emerging professionals of HS Academy, a collaborative initiative between IPERION HS and E-RIHS.

Free registration is required at IPERION HS form.
