Kick off: Launching E-RIHS in Florence

E-RIHS is the acronym of the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science. In short, Italian National Research Council coordinates E-RIHS, that represents the only pan-European Research Infrastructure in the field of social and cultural innovation accepted in the ESFRI Roadmap 2016. The research infrastructure connects researchers in the natural sciences and humanities and fosters a trans-disciplinary culture of exchange and cooperation. Moreover it will offer access to a wide range of cutting-edge facilities, high-level scientific instruments, methodologies, data and tools for advancing knowledge and innovation in the study and preservation of heritage.

The research infrastructure brings together 18 countries as founding members, 10 international countries as supporting partners and over 80 institutions. The distributed research infrastructure will have a central hub in Florence and national nodes located across Europe. National nodes include fixed and mobile national infrastructures of recognized excellence, physically accessible archives and virtually accessible heritage data.

Now the research infrastructure is working on assembling a worldwide network of affiliated partners and creating a global research infrastructure. In this situation, the intergovernmental organization ICCROM supports E-RIHS.

Surely, the kick-off of E-RIHS, currently in its preparatory phase (PP), will take place in Florence on March 30-31.
